Tracks like “No Make-Up (Her Vice)” and “The Spiteful Chant” are wholly uninteresting because they feel the least genuine. Section.80 is Kendrick Lamar’s first full-length project, released on July 2, 2011, via Top Dawg Entertainment although the project was marketed and distributed like a studio album, Lamar has. Section.80‘s most inconsistent moments come when Kendrick is tasked with each song’s chorus, as both his voice and lyrics are questionable several times. In the video for his song HiiiPoWer, Lamar explains that. It’s as well-rounded, complex, challenging and calculated as any debut album of the. With songs like “Keisha’s Song (Her Pain),” and “Rigamortus” sequenced with each other, the album never truly lets you attach to one specific emotion for too long before flipping the script. Touching on the various lives of 80s babies, Section.80 is a winding, volatile experience that jumps from sound to sound before the listener is even ready. Its first song, “F*ck Your Ethnicity,” places the audience within the story of two women, Keisha and Tammy, and much of the rest of the album weaves in and out of their tragic tales. Most of Section.80 feels like an album that wouldn’t be placed as one of the bookends to Kendrick’s career, however.
